Man arrested, charged in connection to fatal 1998 stabbing in Raleigh, police say

Raleigh police say they made an arrest Thursday in a murder case that went cold more than 25 years ago.

According to the Raleigh Police Department. Officers found 36-year-old Bernard Walker with multiple stab wounds around 7:54 p.m. on Dec. 12, 1998, in the 600 block of Gaston Street.

Walker died from his injuries.

In 2007, investigators developed a palm print database and began scanning pal prints into it. In January 2008, authorities made a positive match to a palm print from the crime scene, which they say belonged to 45-year-old Eduardo Corona Gonzalez.

While authorities issued an arrest warrant for Gonzalez, he had been deported nearly six years earlier.

In November, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents in Arizona notified Raleigh police they took Gonzalez into custody.

On Thursday, Police took him into custody and charged him with murder. Gonzales was processed and taken to the Wake County Detention Center.
