Tarboro man charged with murder Friday after body found earlier in the week

A man was charged with murder after a body was found in a wooded area in Edgecombe County.

Deputies arrested and charged Jessie Lee Cherry, of Tarboro, Friday with the murder of Kenneth Earl Wooten, of Pinetops, the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office said.

On Tuesday morning, deputies responded to a vacant lot off Davenport Country Lane after workers nearby located the body.

Cherry is being held at the Edgecombe County Jail without bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
