On July 28, Chatham County Sheriff deputies receieved a report from FedEx about multiple phones taken from delivery vehicles.

A FedEx security specialist said they reviewed surveillance video and saw Ray inside the facility for a long period of time, after he was no longer employed with the company.

Investigators said Ray had been fired from FedEx in December of 2025. They said he used a former employee's FedEx identification badge to get into the facility.

Deputies said Ray would go into delivery trucks as they were being loaded and later phones would appear missing.

Back in February, deputies said Ray used an ecoATM at a Walmart in Zebulon to sell a phone that had been taken from a FedEx delivery location.

Warrants for his arrest have not yet been served.
