The Moore County Sheriff's Office has identified a man shot and killed by a deputy on Saturday, March 21.
Deputies said a man walking on Carthage Street in Cameron around 10:45 p.m. fired a gun, hitting a vehicle. The person in the vehicle was not injured and was able to provide a description of the shooter to deputies.

Deputies spotted a man matching the description, identified as Harvey Hardy, 52. When deputies tried to stop him, they said Hardy ran away and circled a nearby building.
According to the sheriff's office, during the short chase, Hardy fired his weapon, and the deputy, Jed Carraway returned fire. Hardy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Carraway is a retired U.S. Army veteran and has been employed with the Moore County Sheriff's Office since June 2024. He was not injured in this incident.
The SBI has taken over the investigation, which is standard practice in shootings involving law enforcement.
