A Lenoir County woman on Monday was charged with felony child abuse after her son died in a fire months earlier in the county.

According to the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and firefighters with the Pink Hill Volunteer Fire Department were called to a house fire on January 21 on Shady Lane. A 5-year-old boy was severely burned in the fire and passed away in March from his injuries.

After an investigation, deputies arrested 29-year-old Megan Nicole Tyndall, the boy’s mother, and charged her with felony negligent child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury.

Tyndall was placed in the Lenoir County Jail under a $40,000 secure bond.
