For North Carolina natives and longtime residents, it’s a well-known fact: the 2 weeks of the North Carolina State Fair typically have some of the best weather of the year. As a meteorologist and NC native, if I had to plan an outdoor event (weddings, parties, etc.) this is the time frame I always recommend.

On average, there are only 2 days with rain recorded during the duration of the fair. The temperatures are the best part. Early October often contains days with highs in the 80s (we’ve even had 100 before!), but the average high during the state fair is in the 70s. The evenings are comfortably cool with average lows in the 40s (just keep in mind the lows are typically reached around sunrise). This year is no different, with minimal rain (though the farmers out there would argue its importance in ending the drought) and comfortable temperatures.
