Overnight 911 calls in Northampton and Halifax counties got rerouted, issue resolved

Northampton, Halifax and Bertie counties had 911 emergency calls rerouted overnight to other call centers.

According to Halifax County 911 Call Center officials, it lasted from about 9 p.m. Sunday to early Monday morning.

"It is important to clarify that what occurred last night was not an 'outage,'" wrote North Carolina Department of Information Technology communications director Nicole Meister. "At no time was the ESInet down nor were any calls to 911 dropped.

"Calls were successfully rerouted to other PSAPs, which is how the system is supposed to work to provide resiliency for the 911 network."

In a post on Facebook, Northampton County 911 Communications said the calls are being rerouted to another county. In Halifax County, the calls went through Franklin County from 10 p.m. Sunday until about 3:15 a.m.

Bertie County's 911 calls went through Martin County.

Officials said the AT&T Resolution Center worked to resolve the issue overnight.

Meister said the issue was due to an AT&T network issue.
