A person is dead Wednesday after a shooting in Smithfield.
According to the Smithfield Police Department, the shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. at the 2100 block of S. Brightleaf Blvd.

When police arrived they provided life saving measures but the victim died on scene.

The Smithfield Police Department says this is an isolated incident and that the people involved knew each other.
Johnston County Sheriff's Office and the Selma Police Department are assisting police officers with the investigation, which is ongoing. Charges are pending; however, the suspect has not been named.
