Investigators with the Orange County Sheriff's Office are asking for the public's assistance as they continue to search for 17-year-old Ca'Marion LaMonte Nickerson.
Nickerson, who has ties to both Orange and Durham counties, is accused of firing a weapon at a woman during a domestic disturbance on Thursday, Feb. 27.

Nickerson faces two felony charges: assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and kidnapping. Investigators also obtained three misdemeanor warrants for domestic violence, assault on a female and injury to personal property.
On Feb. 27 at 11 a.m., Chapel Hill police officers and Orange County deputies responded to the 100 block of Dragonfly Trail off Old Lystra Road in response to reports of a domestic disturbance. Investigators interviewed the victim, who had fled in her car, as well as other witnesses, and learned the couple had initially been arguing outside.
When the woman tried to leave, authorities said the man tried to stop her. When those efforts failed, authorities said he went inside the house to get a weapon, fired several shots at her, then retreated back inside.
The area was evacuated because law enforcement officers believed the man was still inside the residence. After calling in additional help and using a drone to search the residence, they learned the suspect was no longer inside the home and had likely fled.

Officials initially declined to identify Nickerson because of his age. However, a December 2024 amendment to North Carolina General Statutes §7B-1501(7)(b) changed the definition of a delinquent juvenile by excluding a person alleged to have committed a Class A – E felony offense at the age of 16 or 17. Because Nickerson faces two class E felony charges, he is no longer considered a juvenile, and laws restricting the release of identifying information do not apply.
