The Wake Forest Police Department needs your help supporting one of its officers’ family members.
Danielle Murray, the wife of Sgt. Kevin Murray, was recently diagnosed with stage II breast cancer.

The Murray family has lived in Wake County for years. Danielle Murray has taught at East Wake Academy for about 10 years. Sgt. Kevin Murray has been with the Wake Forest Police Department for 7 years, and worked for the Garner Police Department before that. The couple also has two young children.
“We're all brothers and sisters on and off the job, and we treat each other all like family,” said Lt. David Zick with the Wake Forest Police Department. “The officers, as you can understand, have been upset by this, and we want to be able to help out Sgt. Murray and his family, anyway we can.”
One way the department plans to help is financially, with a Bar-B-Que fundraiser.
In a post on Facebook, the department said in part, “(Danielle Murray) has been undergoing costly medical procedures that are causing a financial hardship for the Murray family. All proceeds from the May 7 Benefit Bar-B-Que will be used to help offset Danielle’s medical expenses.”
The fundraiser is on Wednesday, May 7, at Wake Forest Fire Station #1 at 420 Elm Avenue.
Plates are $15 each and include generous portions of barbecue, green beans and potatoes. Cash, check and credit cards will be accepted.
The police department is not accepting pre-orders, but there will be eat-in and drive-thru takeout options.
Delivery is available for orders of 15 plates or more.
