A fox found dead on Thursday near the Carolina Arbors community in Durham is confirmed to have had rabies.

On Friday, the Durham County Sheriff’s Office said the fox had tested positive for rabies.

WRAL News previously reported that fox had bitten or scratched pets or their owners at least three times.

Officials encourage people to continue to be cautious for their own safety and the safety of their pets.

If pets need a rabies vaccination, Durham County Animal Services offers vaccination clinics Tuesday through Thursday at their office on Glenn Road. Vaccinations are by appointment only and cost $10 per pet.
