A man was arrested and faces multiple charges after deputies found him unconscious behind the wheel with a child in the car.
On Tuesday, deputies said they noticed a car not moving on West First Street near Monroe Street in Roanoke Rapids. Deputies said when they approached the car, they found 28-year-old Evan Paige Carroll unconscious behind the wheel while it was still in drive.

Deputies said they administered aid to Carroll and put the car in park. A seventh month child was also discovered in the back seat in the back seat.
Halifax County EMS evaluated both Carroll and the child. Afterward, deputies said a family member picked up the child.
Deputies also said Carroll had fentanyl.
Carroll was arrested and charged with felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and child abuse.
He is currently in jail and being held without bond. Carroll is expected back in court on March 26.
