A Robeson County murder suspect who authorities said escaped this week after impersonating another inmate is back in custody, according to the sheriff's office.
The Robeson County Sheriff's Office said Zion Britt, 26, of Lumberton was last seen on Tuesday around 9:15 p.m. when he was released from the Columbus County Detention Center after impersonating an inmate who was scheduled to be released.

Britt was captured Thursday morning, less than 42 hours after his escape, at the Motel 6 on Lackey Street in Lumberton, the sheriff's office said. The Columbus County Sheriff's Office, Lumberton Police Department, and the U.S. Marshals Service Carolinas Fugitive Task Force all assisted with the capture.
Deputies said Britt was being held in the Columbus County Detention Center related to a 2021 murder case. He will now face additional charged related to the escape.
