Southern Pines Police Department asked the public for help to find a man wanted on charges that include assault on a law enforcement officer.
Matthew Clarke Hoover is charged with resisting a public officer inflicting serious injury, assault on a law enforcement officer inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury on an emergency worker, possession of cocaine, possession of methamphetamine, larceny, carrying a concealed gun and speeding.

According to warrants, police pulled Hoover over on Bethesda Road April 27. He assaulted an officer and drove away.
Because officers saw a handgun in Hoover's car, they warned that he could be armed.
