A woman was hit and killed by a car while crossing South Saunders Street early Tuesday morning.

Raleigh police said the call came in around 4:40 a.m. from the area of South Saunders Street just south of Interstate 40. According to police, Tyesha Parker, 31, was crossing the street when she was stuck by a Honda Accord.

Police said Parker was wearing dark-colored clothing when she was struck by the Honda. She died from her injuries.

The driver, who showed no signs of impairment, has not been charged. An investigation is ongoing.

The road was closed for several hours.
