Teacher charged with bringing gun to school, Hoke County deputies say

A teacher was charged on Monday after deputies with the Hoke County Sheriff's Office said she brought a gun to campus.

According to the Hoke County Sheriff's Office, deputies charged Jania Jones with bringing a gun on educational property. Deputies said the incident happened at Hawk Eye Elementary School on Old Maxton Road in Red Springs.

Deputies said the gun was found in Jones's car on campus. 

Jones was taken to the Hoke County Magistrate's Office, where she received an unsecured bond. Deputies did not say how much Jones's bond was.

Hoke County Schools said Jones was a fourth-grade teacher with the district from October 2024 to October 2025. She resigned her teaching position on Tuesday, the district said.
