A driver died when he tried to go around lowered crossing gates at a railroad crossing in Clayton on Monday.
The crash occurred around 10:50 a.m. at the intersection of Central Street and Main Street, according to a town spokesperson. Police said the driver of a Toyota Corolla made a left turn onto Central Street and tried to drive around the crossing gates, both of which were down with flashing lights at the time of the crash.

The train, a Norfolk Southern cargo train, hit the left side of the car, which landed about 300 feet away from the initial impact.
Police identified the driver as Dwayne Alton Bryant.
Bryant, 62, died from his injuries. He lived in Clayton.
No one on the train was injured.
Earlier this month, a 21-year-old Wendell woman died when she was hit by an Amtrak train in Clayton near Front Street.
