Two people were charged with child abuse following an incident beneath the Sunset Beach Pier on Saturday evening, WECT reports.
According to the Sunset Beach Police Department, a 911 caller reported that a male was intentionally holding a child upside down by her legs with her face submerged in the water while she was screaming and crying.

Christopher Lee of Longs, South Carolina, and Lesley McClam of Calabash were each charged with one count of misdemeanor child abuse, according to the Sunset Beach Police Department.
The North Carolina Department of Social Services has been notified and is conducting a joint investigation in coordination with the Sunset Beach Police Department.
