Two charged with child abuse after child shot in hand in Cumberland County

Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies arrested two people after a child was shot in the hand.

Deputies were called to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for a child that was treated after they were shot in the hand on Tuesday.

Levar Markeith Warren, 44, of Fayetteville and Chireen Leraine Ladson, 43, of Fayetteville were both arrested and charged with child abuse, the sheriff’s office said.

Court documents said Warren fired the weapon that hit the child in the right hand and Ladson, who is also the child’s mother, waited to call 911 until after cleaning up the blood and taking the child to the hospital.

Warren was charged with felony child abuse serious physical injury and possession of firearm by felon and Ladson was charged with Misdemeanor Child Abuse and Obstruction of Justice.

Both were transported to the Cumberland County Detention Center where they remain in custody.
