A Virginia man was charged in connection with a fatal car crash in Detroit, Michigan that killed a Durham teacher and her husband last weekend.
A Detroit prosecutor charged 40-year-old Theopris Mays of Herndon, Virginia, with two counts of second-degree murder, one count of reckless driving causing death and one count of leaving the scene of an at-fault accident that caused a death.

Detroit police said Mays was working as a Lyft driver at the time of the crash.
According to the Detroit Police Department, officers were dispatched to a warehouse in response to a single-car accident around 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 22.
When officers arrived, they found Mays's car upright against a loading dock door with both Carla Boynton and her husband, Andre Boynton, trapped inside. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers' preliminary investigation determined that Mays was driving recklessly at a high speed when he lost control and crashed into the building.
He allegedly fled the scene on foot. It's unclear how long it took for Detroit police to locate and arrest him.
Mays was arraigned Wednesday, and his bond was set at $500,000.
The Detroit Police Department stated that a bond determination hearing is scheduled for Friday, and a probable cause conference is scheduled for March 5.
A FOX affiliate station in Detroit reported that Lyft released a statement regarding this incident, stating:
Our hearts are broken by this unimaginable loss. We extend our condolences to the riders’ family, friends, and loved ones and have reached out to offer our support. The driver is permanently removed from the Lyft platform, and we are cooperating with law enforcement. Lyft Spokesperson
