The settlement will pay $800,000 to Telisha Yvette Cotton and Dexter Jermain Ferrell, both as individuals and as co-Administrators of the Estate of D.J.F.
The settlement is pre-litigation (pre-lawsuit settlement), meaning it's in exchange for a release of potential claims. The family has not sued but has negotiated with the district and school board.
Court documents in 2024 show that Tyquan General would be charged as an adult in connection to this stabbing. Then 14-years-old, General is accused of fatally stabbing Ferrell when they were both students at Southeast Raleigh. Another student was also injured.
The murder case against General is still pending.
