Wendell Elementary School students are safe after firefighters responded to the school on Wednesday.
Firefighters advised that the students would not be able to return to classrooms on Wednesday, according to a letter sent to Wendell Elementary School families.

Students at lunch in the Kindergarten through second-grade gym and the third-grade through fifth-grade auditorium, according to the letter.
After-school programs are canceled Wednesday.
The letter said it was too late in the day for an early release. The school released students at its normal time of 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Anyone wanting to pick up their child will need photo identification.
