A 20-year-old man from Willow Spring has won $10 million off of a North Carolina Education Lottery scratch-off ticket, the lottery announced Friday. 

Jeremy Wilson spent $50 on a $10 Million Spectacular scratch-off ticket at North River Tobacco Barn on Caratoke Highway in Jarvisburg. He scratched the ticket in the store and discovered his won the top prize.

“It was a crazy feeling,” Wilson said, recalling the moment. “I couldn’t control myself.”

Wilson said he told his mom right away what happened, but she thought he was joking. He said he plans to take her on a trip for her birthday and save the rest of his winnings. 

Wilson collected his prize Thursday and opted to take a lump sum of $6 million instead of an annunity of $500,00 per year for 20 years. After state and federal taxes, Wilson ended up taking home $4,305,014.

Wilson’s big win marks the third $10 million win in North Carolina so far this year.

 The $10 Million Spectacular game debuted in December 2023 with five top prizes of $10 million, 20 prizes of $1 million and 20 prizes of $100,000.

Wilson won the last $10 million top prize, which means the lottery will begin the process of ending the game.
