A child was killed on Tuesday in an accident on a highway in Wilson County.
According to State Highway Patrol, the accident happened on North Carolina Highway 42 near Sadie Road in Wilson County just after 8 p.m. The crash happened just outside Wilson city limits.

Troopers said a 2019 white freightliner was traveling east in the left lane of NC-42, and a 1-year-old child was walking in the left lane of NC-42. The freightliner struck the child, and the child was pronounced dead on the scene.
Troopers did not say why the child was walking on NC-42.
A GoFundMe spokesperson confirmed Brooks McCoy Ambrose died in Tuesday's crash. There is a GoFundMe started to pay for his funeral expenses.
SHP Lt. Christopher Knox said no charges are anticipated to be filed against the parents or guardians in this child's death.
The driver of the freightliner did not have contributing circumstances in this crash, and charges have not been filed, as of Wednesday.
