The man accused of robbing a bank in Zebulon and shooting at two Rocky Mount police officers on Friday is now charged with attempted murder.
Willie McGee Jr. is accused of shooting at the officers, who had linked him to the bank robbery earlier in the day.

New warrants in the case, from Nash and Wake counties, add charges against McGee, who is being held without bond.
In Nash County, McGee is charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm and discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.
In Wake County, McGee is charged with armed robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a weapon of mass destruction.
The charges are in addition to the federal charges McGee faces of bank robbery and discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.
Around 11:38 a.m. Friday, Zebulon police received a report that a man entered the First Citizens Bank at 101 Wakelon St. in Zebulon. The warrant states that McGee told the teller he had an explosive device in his semitruck. He is accused of leaving the bank with $3,234 in cash.
After police tracked his truck to a Hobby Lobby parking lot on Sutters Creek Boulevard in Rocky Mount, Zebulon police officers contacted Rocky Mount authorities to assist them. According to federal prosecutors, McGee then got out of the truck armed with a Ruger AR-556 rifle and began shooting at the officers.
Federal prosecutors said the officers then shot back, hitting McGee. As they took McGee into custody, authorities found a handgun in his waistband. He was treated at a hospital and, on Monday, booked into the Nash County jail.
No police officers or people near the shooting were injured during McGee's arrest.
"If what we allege is true, he threatened a bank teller in a place of commerce ... and threatened violence that could have hurt the bank teller, anyone in that bank, anyone around. And we know that, allegedly, when he was arrested four hours later in Rocky Mount, he had two weapons," U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle said in a Monday phone interview with WRAL Investigates. "One [was] an AR-style rifle that he shot at law enforcement officers with.
"So, this is a person who is willing to commit depraved acts of violence in society."
Authorities did not find explosives or the cash in McGee’s semitruck, according to a court document.
McGee has a criminal history dating back more than 20 years, WRAL Investigates found. It includes charges of driving with a revoked license, assault and battery.
