Twelve people were injured Tuesday after officials said a "mace-like substance" was used at a McDonald's in south Charlotte.

WCNC Charlotte reports, around 11:30 a.m., EMS responded to the restaurant along South Tryon Street near Billy Graham Parkway.

The details about what led to the assault weren't immediately clear. Three people were taken to a hospital for evaluation, while nine people were treated at the scene and not transported.
