CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A person was shot and killed by a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer in north Charlotte on Friday.
The shooting happened around 2:45 p.m. near a gas station along LaSalle Street at Newland Road, just west of I-77. Officers saw a group of individuals engaging in a "criminal transaction." Officers chased a person who walked off from the scene.

Police say multiple commands were given to the person to stop. Police say the person pulled out a firearm and then was shot by officers.
The person was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
No officers were hurt in the shooting. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
A witness to the shooting told WCNC Charlotte that they were with the person who was shot before the shooting. They said they found a gun in a dumpster and then ran away when police saw them. They said the person fell on the ground and officers shot them.
The officer who shot the suspect has been placed on administrative leave, following standard practices. The shooting is being investigated by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
