A man is facing multiple felony charges after he was accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl in Chatham and Montgomery counties.
On Friday, Chatham County sheriff’s deputies arrested 54-year-old Larry Varner in Bear Creek.

Deputies began investigating Varner in June, after receiving a report of assaults that happened at Varner’s home in Bear Creek and a home in the Badin Lake community in Montgomery County. The investigation found the assaults happened multiple times over a year.
Deputies said Varner is charged with three counts of statutory rape, eight counts of indecent liberties with a child, first-degree kidnapping, delivery of a controlled substance to a minor and child abuse.
Varner is being held on a $281,000 secured bond and is expected to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Aug. 4.
