WRAL is learning more about the circumstances surrounding the death of Georgia resident Derrick Moore. The 47-year-old was found dead Saturday morning in Myrtle Beach, after police say he saved a girl from a rip current, Friday night.
Until now, we knew little about the girl Moore died saving, police have not released her name. But on Sunday a man claiming to be the girl’s uncle said Moore saved him, too.

“He saved me and my niece. I am so sorry. My heart goes out to the family. I’m trying to contact the family,” he wrote on a social media post from one of Moore’s grieving sons.
Several viewers reached WRAL Keely Arthur hoping to connect the man with Moore’s family. Arthur was the first to report Moore’s name Saturday night after speaking to his family.
WRAL has reached out to the man for comment and has relayed his message to Moore’s family.
Moore was a father of four and a teacher. The drowning, according to police, happened around 8 p.m. No lifeguards were on duty.
