WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The family of the man shot on the campus of Winston-Salem State University Friday evening is opening up about his injuries and looking for answers.

The family told WXII the victim was shot nine times in total, six times in the abdomen and three times in his shoulders. After undergoing surgery, he is now recovering at a local hospital.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m. Friday, officers with the Winston-Salem Police Department, along with campus police, responded to a shooting inside a study room of Rams Commons 3, a residential facility on campus. Officials said the victim’s injuries are not considered to be life-threatening, and the incident appears to be isolated. They have not shared further on his condition.

Winston-Salem State University officials said the victim is not enrolled at the school. WXII staff is following this story and working to learn more.
