A Fayetteville man was charged after he was accused of shooting at police officers during a stolen car chase Monday night.
Hope Mills police said J'Quan Fitzgerald, 26, was driving a car that Fayetteville police reported stolen. Officers attempted to pull Fitzgerald over during a traffic stop when he fled, causing a car chase.

During the pursuit, police said Fitzgerald shot at the officers from his car.
Police said he eventually threw the gun out of the window before hitting an embankment. No officers were injured.
Fitzgerald was taken into custody and faces several charges, including:
- Felony flee to elude
- Felony possession of a stolen vehicle
- Assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer
- Felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction
- Felony possession of a firearm by a felon
- Driving with a revoked license
Fitzgerald was also wanted by the Fayetteville Police Department on previous charges, including two counts of second-degree kidnapping, two counts of robbery and felony conspiracy.
He is being held without bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center. His first court appearance is on April 16.
