A man has been arrested and charged with hit-and-run after investigators say he was involved in a crash that caused a 9-year-old to get their leg amputated.
According to a WECT report, the crash happened 10 a.m. on Saturday on South 15th Street in Wilmington. Investigators say Theodore Gause, 51, hit a child who was sitting on his bike in his own driveway.

The child’s leg was cut from his body during the crash.
Gause allegedly got out of his car and ran away before witnesses found him. Police believe he was under the influence at the time of the crash.
Theodore Gause is now sitting behind bars charged with felony hit-and-run, felony serious injury by motor vehicle and driving while impaired. He has a slew of other more minor traffic charges related to the crash as well.
Court records say Gause has an extensive criminal history. He is being held with no bond and is expected to face a judge tomorrow.
