Robeson County fire crews battle two large fires

In a post on Facebook, the Big Marsh Fire Department said crews are working to put out fires just 10 miles apart from each other on Veterans and Emma Jane roads. Officials have not said what caused either fire or if there were any injuries.

Big Marsh Fire Department officials shared in a post on Facebook that crews were working to continue a large fire on Veterans Road.

“The fire is still burning heavily. It’s going to be a long process,” the post read in part.

Officials also said there is another fire burning on Emma Jane Road, less than 10 miles away.

Officials have not said what caused either fire or released any information about possible injuries.

A statewide burn ban is in effect until further notice due to dangerous fire conditions, according to the North Carolina Forest Service. The ban prohibits open burning across all 100 counties, including burning permit holders.
