One skydiver hurt, another stuck in tree in Franklin County

One skydiver was injured and another became stuck in a tree Saturday evening during a skydiving accident in Franklin County.

Franklin County officials said the injured skydiver was hurt during a hard landing near the runway of Skydive Raleigh. That person was taken to WakeMed in Raleigh for minor injuries.

The second skydiver was rescued from a tree 80 feet in the air on Peach Orchard Road in Louisburg, also near Skydive Raleigh. Officials said the skydiver was not hurt.

"It took a complete county, municipal and private sector effort to help this person get down from the tree safely ... incidents like this are serious and life-threatening to the person who is stuck in the tree and for the responders who have the responsibility to rescue people under any circumstance,"  said Nicholas Thorpe, director of Franklin County Emergency Management. "Tonight the entire community came together, and we are glad this person was able to walk away from this incident."
