LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Two people in Lenoir County pleaded guilty to bank fraud after they received more than $187,000 from the federal government in COVID housing loans.
Kendra Edmondson, 39, and Britteny Dryer, 35, each pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud.

Prosecutors say the pair worked with others to submit fake applications to the North Carolina Housing Opportunities and Prevention of Evictions program, which included fake tenant leases for several properties.
The two submitted 23 fake applications to the NC HOPE program between November 2020 and December 2021, according to warrants. They pocketed more than $187,000.
“These two lowdown fraudsters chose to milk the system by lining their pockets while hardworking taxpayers rolled up their sleeves during the pandemic,” U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle said.
Edmondson and Dryer each face up to 30 years in federal prison and a $1 million fine when sentenced later this year.
