HIGH POINT, N.C. - A woman died in the High Point Detention Center after experiencing a medical emergency Wednesday evening. 

Detention Center staff said 39-year-old Stephanie Grant in distress inside her cell. When EMS arrived at the dentention center, Grant was unresponsive and first responders provided life-saving efforts, according to the Guilford County Sheriff's Office.

She was taken to the hospital, and was pronounced dead at 7:45 p.m. 

The Guilford County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Investigative Unit and the Chief Medical Examiner is investigating her death. 

She was arrested by the High Point Police Department on Monday. She was being held on the following charges:

  • Felony Possession of Cocaine
    • Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
      • Felony Failure to Appear on Larceny of a Motor Vehicle (Rowan County)

        She was being held on a $15,000 secured bond, and a $30,000 secured bond for her charges in Rowan County. 

        The investigation is ongoing.
