RALEIGH — The NCAA approved an eligibility waiver for NC State defensive lineman Ka’Tron Evans, making him eligible for the rest of the season, a university spokesperson said Wednesday.
Evans, a transfer from Marshall, sued the NCAA in federal court and was seeking a sixth year of eligibility. The judge in the case ordered Evans eligible pending a final ruling, which was expected Wednesday.

“The court has been advised that the parties have settled all matters in controversy among them,” Judge Louise W. Flanagan wrote Wednesday.
NC State (0-1) hosts Richmond (2-0) on Friday night at Carter-Finley Stadium.
Evans had five tackles in the Wolfpack’s 34-8 loss at Virginia in the season opener.
Evans played at Jackson State in 2021 and 2022 but appeared in just one game in 2022 and redshirted. He transferred to Charlotte and missed the entire 2023 season due to poor grades after a series of personal tragedies. He played for Charlotte in 2024 and Marshall in 2025.
“It is my firm belief,” NC State coach Dave Doeren told the court in a written declaration, “that KaTron lost a season of football eligibility due to circumstances beyond his control and that the NCAA’s denial of his eligibility extension is causing him and our team immediate and ongoing irreparable harm.”
In his declaration, Doeren said that Evans, a 340-pound nose guard, is expected to play more snaps at that position than any other player on the team.
