Kids in Parks is an Asheville-based group that's putting together a network of family-friendly outdoor adventures called TRACK Trails across the country at local and state parks.
The group recently released its top 10 most visited TRACK Trails across the country in 2018, and one Triangle trail at Umstead Park made it on the list, along with several others in North Carolina.

It's worth noting that many of Kids in Parks' trails are in North Carolina or the Southeast. In fact, in 2018, the group introduced its 100th TRACK Trail in North Carolina. But not all of them are here. The group also lists family-friendly hiking, biking, paddling and disc golf adventures in the Midwest and California.
The Raleigh trail that made the group's top 10 most visited trail is the 0.6-mile Oak Rock Trail at Umstead Park at 8801 Glenwood Ave. in north Raleigh.
The trail, according to the website, "is aptly named as the trail features a large oak tree that has grown out of an outcropping of rock."
Hikers will find interpretive panels describing the trees found in the park, according to the website. They also can complete the Kids in Parks “Need for Trees” activity brochure, which is a take-along guide that will describe some of the trees that inhabit the park and why those trees are important, the website says.
