Overdoses from heroin, fentanyl and other opioids are the leading cause of accidental death in North Carolina. In 2017, the WRAL original documentary Searching For A Fix shared personal stories of families who lost loved ones to overdose and examined the challenges of getting people addicted to opioids into treatment. The new WRAL Documentary Finding A Fix looks at how North Carolina's efforts to combat opioid addiction have changed and expanded in the years since. It also spotlights first responders, activists and key policy makers on the front lines of the epidemic.
The new WRAL documentary “Finding a Fix” is an update to the 2017 WRAL Documentary “Searching for a Fix.” That program shared the personal stories of families who’ve lost loved ones to overdose, revealed how first responders are dealing with the crisis, looked at the challenges of getting people addicted to opioids into treatment and examined how policymakers were dealing with the epidemic.

In interviews with key state policymakers, “Finding a Fix” updates the progress that’s been made in our state’s effort to combat its opioid addiction crisis since 2017. It revisits some of the stories of families who’ve lost loved ones to opioid overdose and the first responders and activists on the front lines of the epidemic.
Finding A Fix is presented in partnership with More Powerful NC--a campaign created by the North Carolina Department of Justice and the Department of Health and Human Services to raise awareness of the scope and danger of the opioid crisis.
