A child on a bicycle was struck by a car Tuesday on Humie Olive Road near Apex Friendship Middle School.

The age and condition of the child, who was transported to a local hospital, was not provided.

The road was closed before 8:45 a.m. between Evans Road and Richardson Road, according to the police.

Sky 5 flew over the road at 9:30 a.m., showing a bicycle in the roadway. A firetruck was blocking traffic.

Police said the driver who hit the child stayed at the scene.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area.
