A motorcyclist was killed Sunday in a crash in downtown Raleigh.
Around 4:15 p.m., a member of the State Highway Patrol tried to stop the speeding motorcycle on U.S. Highway 401 near Old Stage Road.

The motorcycle was speeding 89 mph in a 45 mph zone, troopers said.
The motorcyclist didn't stop, and a chase ensued.
According to the State Highway Patrol, the motorcycle turned right onto South Wilmington Street. The cyclist did not stop for a red light at the intersection with Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and crashed into a Dodge SUV.
The motorcyclist, identified as William David Singleton, 21, of Greenville, died at the scene.
A minivan also hit a light pole during the crash.
