A high-speed chase ended in a crash, causing a power outage for hundreds near Knightdale Tuesday morning.
WRAL News was told that the chase started in Cary when a state trooper attempted to pull over a driver for speeding. When the trooper tried to check if the driver had been drinking, he said the driver sped off. During the chase, authorities said the car drove off the road and hit a pole near on Poole Road and Hoppy Hill Drive.

Authorities said the chase reached speeds up to 100 mph in a a 55 mph speed zone.
As of 3 a.m., more than 2,000 customers were without power. As of 5 a.m., that number decreased to nearly 400. Duke Energy is working to repair the outage but said power may not be restored until the afternoon.
The driver was taken to the hospital and will be charged with driving while impaired and driving away from the State Highway Patrol.
