At least two people hurt after chase ends in crash in Person County

Two cars crashed after a chase in Person County Monday afternoon.

Just after 3 p.m., Person County Sheriff Wilborn said a deputy was in pursuit of a car. The crash ended with two cars crashing into one another on U.S. Highway 501 in Person County. The drivers of both cars were taken to Duke Hospital.

This incident is being investigated by N.C. State Highway Patrol.

This is not the first time a chase has ended with uninvolved bystanders being hurt – or even killed.

Police chases in North Carolina have more than doubled in recent years, raising concerns about safety. In 2022, 24 people were killed in pursuits in North Carolina – half of whom were uninvolved bystanders.
