A Charlotte-area design firm filed suit in Mecklenburg County, asking for more than $100,000 it says it owed by Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh.
Saint Augustine’s financial issues have been well documented over the last several months. What began with complaints from employees who were not paid lets to students being sent home before the end of the spring semester. The school faces tax liens and lawsuits totaling more than $10 million.

Little Diversified Architectural Consulting, Inc. sued the school last year. According to Little, Saint Augustine’s hired it for professional design services, which included the development of a campus and community master plan.
The company sent 11 invoices to the school over a nine-month period between August of 2022 and May of 2023. The school paid the first three invoices, which totaled more than $91,000 but still owes $106,891.11, according to the suit.
The lawsuit says the company contacted Saint Augustine’s multiple times about the unpaid bills, and that the university promised to pay the remaining balance last August, but failed to do so.
School leaders have said they're exploring several options to raise cash to catch up on unpaid salaries, other unpaid bills and legal obligations.
