A recent graduate of North Carolina State University was watching Monday Night Football when a tree came crashing into his home.

Adam McLaine moved into the house in July near the Oberlin Village and Forest Hills neighborhoods.

“I was about to sit on my bed where the tree actually hit on the ceiling,” McLaine said.

McLaine said the crashing and wood cracking felt like the entire house got hit. The downed tree came as part of Monday’s storms that ravaged North Carolina.

McLaine moved to the home after graduating and starting a new job in the Raleigh area.

The landlord of the home lives in Wilmington.

“We didn’t realize it was such a massive tree that hit our house,” McLaine said.

McLaine said he and his roommates were excited about moving into the home.

“[We’re] bummed it’s in bad shape now,” McLaine said.

McLaine said he and his roommates were lucky the tree hit where it did.

“The neighbors helped us with a place to stay,” McLaine said. “First, we called 911 to let them know. Then, we called our parents.”

McLaine said he isn’t sure if he will couch surf or go back home yet.
