An eastern Carolina man visiting his home in the western part of the state had a close encounter with not just one, but two black bears.
Mark Storie says he had just put birdseed feeders out Thursday morning when he heard a loud thud.

When he looked out his window, he says he saw a huge female bear enjoying the seeds.
Storie says he thought there was only the one bear he saw. When he went to open his door a bear scurried by. As he opened the door, Storie was surprised when an even bigger bear shot right by him.
“Clearly, I was surprised. She passed close enough that I could smell her,” Storie says. “Bears are a common neighbor on the mountain, but not many reached the size of that pretty girl…I have a great respect for those bears.”
Storie says he’ll look left and right before opening the door next time.
