The Town of Benson announced the passing of former Police Chief Kenneth Edwards this week in a social media post.
Edwards began his career with the Benson Police Department in 1996. He was promoted to Captain over a year later and later became Chief of Police. He officially retired in June 2020.

In a 2020 interview, Edwards expressed his deep affection for the town and its residents, calling them "absolutely the best of any community I've ever been in my life."
Funeral arrangements for Edwards will be held on Saturday, at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home, located at 905 Erwin Road in Dunn. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m.
