Human remains were discovered over the weekend near the Haw River in Chatham County.
According to the Chatham County Sheriff's Office, a kayaker reported seeing bones along the riverbank of the Haw River, and investigators with the sheriff's office confirmed they were human remains.

Authorities said they searched the area Saturday and into Sunday morning. Deputies said cadaver dogs from the Nash County Sheriff's Office helped authorities discover more remains.
The Medical Examiner was also at the scene and help authorities identify the remains and determine the cause of death.
According to deputies, the investigation is ongoing.
