A man was charged with breaking into a vacant Hillsborough home on Friday morning.

A neighbor noticed an unfamiliar man in a nearby home on Guess Road and took a photo of the license plate on his truck.

Around 8 a.m., the neighbor called the property owner and asked if he was expecting anyone at the home before calling 911.

Later, an Orange County deputy spotted the man's truck at the Handy Andy convenience store and apprehended him on Bill Poole Road.

Gary Wells was charged with felony breaking and entering. The magistrate gave Wells, 52, a written promise to appear in court on March 18.

“This case is a perfect example of why we recommend neighbors look out for each other’s property, share contact information and communicate with one another," said Sergeant Daniel Roberson.
