The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC) on Wednesday evacuated more than 800 offenders from another two prisons in storm-stricken western North Carolina.
The NCDAC relocated 248 men from Craggy Correctional Center to Alexander Correctional Institution in Taylorsville and 557 men from Mountain View Correctional Institution to six prisons in central and eastern North Carolina:

Authorities said this was necessary due to long timeframes for expected restoration of water and power.
The NCDAC said everyone is safe. Relocated offenders can make phone calls after they arrive at their destinations.
This week, the NCDAC has evacuated more than 2,000 people from five western North Carolina prisons.
On Monday, 405 women were moved from Western Correctional Center for Women in Swannanoa and from Black Mountain Substance Abuse Treatment Center for Women. On Tuesday, 841 men were relocated from Avery-Mitchell Correctional Institution in Spruce Pine.
The NCDAC said its online Offender Locator will be updated within 24 hours to show where individuals are temporarily rehoused. The NCDAC said the duration of the relocations will depend on the time required to complete utility repairs.
